I recently applied to the Rhode Island School of Anesthesia program, and did not get selected for an interview. I retook science courses, took graduate level advaced pharmacology courses, did some research work and a few other things but was told I was not competative enough. Any ideas on what else I could do to be make a competative applicant?

Hi @Alexandra Poznick ,
I’m so sorry! That is so tough and I honestly know the feeling. One thing I would ask yourself is, “Am I willing to cast a wider net?”.
For me, I was so set on only going to schools in my home-state. I kept on re-applying after my initial interviews/rejection letters sent to me by those same 5 schools… and I did this for…

@Alexandra Poznick hey, I know it’s really disappointing to not get an interview – but be proud of yourself for submitting – and we can only go up from here.
Okay, so a couple of things. It’s hard for me to give you a very comprehensive answer without knowing more. For example, what exactly is your science GPA and what’s your overall GPA?… Read more

Hey there everyone! I have a few questions when it comes to retaking classes. I have a 2.7 cumulative GPA for my undergrad degree.
– Can I take the classes at a community college as a cheap alternative?
– Do programs include my previous grade and retake grade?
– Should I skip retaking courses and do graduate courses instead?
– Which courses do…

Hi @aniyah-p ,
– Can I take the classes at a community college as a cheap alternative?
I don’t see anything wrong with this. The only downside I see from this is that a lot of graduate programs want to know you’re ready for graduate school, so, in my opinion, taking graduate science courses might be more beneficial. You have to do what is best for…

@aniyah-p I agree with everything Jordan has said and here are my thoughts for you:
So taking classes at a community college typically is fine. There are a few CRNA programs out there that do require your prerequisites be from a four-year institution. So in this case, a community college, which would be a two-year institution, would not… Read more

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share that I was recently accepted to a program starting next year! I know that when I was in the process of researching schools/applying I was constantly scanning the forums (and the internet) for some morsel of hope that it was possible with a low GPA. It IS possible, I had a less than stellar first degree…

Thank you for sharing, Anna!!! You worked hard these past few years. I can say that Anna started with The CRNA Club when she was still in NURSING SCHOOL. She put in a TON of research, work, and networked like crazy (she attended the Educators Edge conference – formally known as ADCE – this is the one where all the faculty are at primarily).
I…

In addition to my latest post in this forum, I wanted to also address the fact that your GPA is not the whole picture! Yes, CRNA school is extremely competitive, and having a great GPA increases your chances of landing an interview for sure, but it is not everything!
Because I didn’t have the most impressive GPA (even after taking grad…

How I Got CRNA School Interviews with a Low Science GPA
I didn’t have the strongest science GPA (just a 3.0!). Like many, I struggled transitioning from high school to college. My study habits didn’t click until nursing school, and by then, my GPA had already taken a hit!
When I applied to CRNA programs in 2019, I landed multiple interviews. I…

Hi JoJo, I think I follow you on ig! Thank you for your insight, it really gives me a lot of hope to be able to accomplish this massive goal. I am in my last semester of nursing school so I am beginning to prep for the courses I will be retaking once I graduate. How did you juggle all of these courses and pay for them? I think that is what I…

What questions do you have about strengthening your application for a lower GPA? Drop them in this thread – there are LOTS of things we can do to prove you have the academic potential required. Such as:
– Retaking classes or grad classes (most of you know this)
– Taking the GRE even if not required (some programs will accept it and look at…-
Hi Sachi. I have a poor BSN GPA at 2.8. Science GPA is 3.4. I am trying to decide if I should take grad level pharm and patho or retake undergraduate sciences. I am also considering getting my master’s. Also, what master’s program would be best as far as FNP or education, etc? Thank you!
