Hey @cayden! Thanks so much for your message! I think it’s incredible that you’re already reflecting on your “why” , especially with your future interviews in mind. Everything you shared is thoughtful and insightful. Honestly, not many people have that kind of clarity or even awareness of what a CRNA is back in high school.

The fact that you have a family member who is a CRNA gives you a unique and honest perspective. And being present during such a critical moment, watching a CRNA place an epidural during your wife’s birth, clearly had a powerful impact. That kind of firsthand experience is incredibly meaningful, and the way it shifted your entire career path speaks volumes. The steps you’ve taken since (switching your major, committing to nursing, and working toward CRNA school) show real intention and dedication. All of these moments are shaping a strong and authentic “why.”

As for how to communicate this in an interview, you already have everything you need in your story. Don’t overthink it. When answering the “Why do you want to be a CRNA?” question, just focus on telling it clearly and concisely in about a minute:

    • Briefly mention starting out as a business major.

    • Share how your wife’s birth experience — specifically the CRNA placing the epidural — was a turning point.

    • Highlight how conversations with your uncle, a CRNA, helped solidify your decision to pursue this path.

    • Emphasize the steps you’ve taken since, and your continued commitment to the goal.

Finally, try to connect your story to the qualities you’ve observed in CRNAs, leadership, calm under pressure, autonomy, critical thinking, and how you see those traits in yourself or are working to develop them. You’re absolutely on the right track. Keep going! As you get further down the application process with your shadowing, networking, leadership projects etc. you’ll continue to build up this “why” more! LET’S GO!!!

Hey @lindsayRN Okay so that comment above was a previous person’s comment from the beta site that when we migrated over showed up under my name because they were not on the platform anymore so I inherited their comment so to speak! So I can’t exactly answer for them but my advice is to take a practice exam and see where you land. Then, you’ll want to see how much you have to improve before August’s deadline. Depending how much time you can devote in the month of July, you might be able to raise your score a bit.

This article has a good suggestion on how many hours to study to raise your score: https://www.manhattanprep.com/gre/blog/how-much-can-you-expect-your-gre-score-to-go-up-with-studying/

Ohhhh, YAY! We get Kaiser students where I work, great program.

Make sure you’re prepared with your EQ answers. Also, make sure you look up John Nagelhaut, Sass Elisha, Jeremey Heiner and how their relation to the textbook Nurse Anesthesia. It’s our primary textbook nationwide and should be a big reason as to why you want to go there 😉

June 20, 2025 at 12:48 pm in reply to: Low Nursing GPA

Hey, so first of all, your’e not alone in your situation here. I can’t give you a yes or no answer on your NP because there is more to it than just your GPA. Here are my thoughts:

CRNA Programs Weigh Science Heavily – Many schools prioritize looking at your science class grades heavily, so this is huge that you have such a high science GPA. We need to know why your Nursing GPA was low, meaning, what classes did you get less than a B in, and were any of them core science classes.

Other Application Strengths – NETWORKING/AANA Events, Exceptional ICU experience, CCRN certification, strong letters of recommendation, and a well-written personal statement can all help offset a lower GPA.

Choose Your Schools Strategically – You need to attend open houses/virtual QA sessions to understand how each program you’re looking at will analyze your GPA. Many programs look at your overall GPA instead of your nursing GPA. Also, some look at the last 60 credits. I would choose your schools strategically and avoid ones that look at your Nursing GPA specifically. Look at the GPA/Prereq videos in the Learning Library for more on this topic, and filter the School Database by GPA type.

    • So my questions:
      1. When you save average, do you mean overall GPA? What about your Last 60 credits GPA? Have you taken any graduate level courses, or do you plan to?
      2. Have you picked your programs yet? And if so, have you reached out to them specifically to discuss this (or plan to attend an open house or event)?
      3. Do you plan to attend an AANA event or other type of in-person networking event?

Lastly, getting your MSN isn’t a bad idea at all, but I can’t vote for or against it without knowing how the rest of your application is looking!

@matthewsjm ugh organic chem is tough! If you don’t think you can bring your grade up to an A with a tutor, I would withdraw and re-take a course that maybe is a bit longer, 12-16 weeks so it’s not so condensed.
