In addition to my latest post in this forum, I wanted to also address the fact that your GPA is not the whole picture! Yes, CRNA school is extremely competitive, and having a great GPA increases your chances of landing an interview for sure, but it is not everything!
Because I didn’t have the most impressive GPA (even after taking grad school science courses), I knew I had to do more things to show CRNA schools that I’m serious about pursuing a graduate program, that I have what it takes to become a leader, and that I am well-rounded and have a wide-ranged nursing skillset.
Here’s what ELSE was on my resumé that helped make me stand out:
- RN preceptor
- Charge Nurse
- Rapid Response Team
- Device specialist/superuser: IABP, ECMO, Impella, LVAD, Ultrasound (for US-guided PIV insertion), Edwards Science CCO superuser
- Shared Governance Committee Member
- Medication Safety Committee Member
- New-hire Interview Committee Member
- Mock-Code Instructor
- Ultrasound-guided PIV Instructor
- Research (Ketamine as an opioid alternative for target patient population in the ED; Early extubation time for “Fast-tracked” CVICU patients post-op)
- Was on the news for Nurses Week in 2023! 😅
And yes, you best believe that I was asked about some of these things during my interviews! Everything on your resume is FAIR GAME during interviews!
