Stress Management as an SRNA
In This Article (4 sections)

Stress management for SRNAs? It matters more than you think. If you don’t figure it out, CRNA school will chew you up, spit you out, and hand you a coffee-stained care plan for good measure. Daily habits, weekly resets, and actual breaks. non-negotiable. No one’s breezing through this alone. Period.

What Actually Works Day-to-Day in CRNA School?

Okay, let’s not pretend. SRNA life means eating cold pizza between importants and studying wherever you can. Organization is the only way you stay afloat. Seriously. Google Calendar, a million sticky notes, whatever keeps you from missing a quiz. (Anyone else forget a sim lab at least once?) If you don’t plan your study blocks, you feel it. Trust.

And sleep? Not just a suggestion. It’s survival. Nagelhout wasn’t kidding. You try interpreting anesthesia gases on two hours of sleep. spoiler, it’s not cute. If you crash during a lecture, you’ll be up all night anyway trying to relearn.

Food. look, you don’t have to be a meal prep influencer. But if you’re running on pure caffeine and vending machine snacks, your brain will bail on you. Trader Joe’s frozen meals, meal kits, leftovers. just eat real food. Your future self will thank you. (I learned after my third “hangry” meltdown, oops.)

We’ve actually got a ton more about this in our Learning Library. tap into the Profession Overview and CRNA History + Types of Anesthesia lessons for context on how wild SRNA life can get. And yes, we all wish we knew these hacks before our first clinical day.

Why Are Weekly Routines So Important for CRNA Applicants?

Ever look at your week and wonder how you’re supposed to do anything fun? Same. But if you don’t carve out a little space for yourself, you’ll burn out before the midterm. Saturday walks. Your favorite trash TV. Coffee runs that aren’t just for caffeine but for sanity. Even 30 minutes of journaling or a nap counts.

And moving your body? Not optional. If you’ve ever jogged around the block just to clear your head after a study marathon, you know. Endorphins help. Yoga, running, lifting heavy things, dancing in the kitchen. whatever. (We’re not all Peloton superstars and that’s fine.)

Push through those endless study days because you know you’ve got something at the end of it. That anticipation is honestly why we survived the worst semester ever.

Monthly Check-Ins: The Reset Button You Didn’t Know You Needed

Take a breath. Once a month, check in with yourself. What’s working? What’s a dumpster fire? Genuinely celebrate your wins, even the tiny ones. Passed your skills check-off? Survived your first intubation? That counts. Treat yourself. end-of-quarter dinners, a massage, new scrubs. You earned it. (No one else is going to throw you a party, promise.)

If you’re not sure what to tweak, listen to Ep 2: "3 things I would have done differently BEFORE applying to CRNA school." Some stuff you just don’t know until you’re deep in it. And stressing about stress? That’s not the move. This is practice for real CRNA life, too. learning to check in, adjust, and keep going.
