What prerequisites does National University require?
Prereqs (A&P I & II, Microbiology, and one chemistry: Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Organic Chemistry) must be <10 years old (7 preferred), completed at an accredited institution, and done by the interview; an A is preferred. Graduate-level science courses are accepted in place of any prereq. Retaken courses replace old grades in GPA. Portage/other non-degree-granting institutions accepted only for classes taken within a normal 16-week semester timeframe. Pass/fail (competency-based) BSN degrees not accepted.

How long is National University's CRNA program?
It is a three year, or 36 months long, hybrid model with the 1st year being entirely didactic. We use a front-loaded structure with in-class, synchronous and asynchronous methods. The 1st year is located at the Fresno campus. Residents will be required to come to campus for exams, sim lab as well as sim testing and special lectures. Years 2 and 3 will be clinical with doctorate courses online.
Clinical sites in CA, AZ, TX, NV, NM and OH; greater than 70% of clinical sites are CRNA-only or CRNA-autonomous practices. Placement is by program/site need (preferences considered, not guaranteed). Optional 3-month Saipan clinical rotation and 1-2 week international mission trips (e.g., Dominican Republic, Mexico, Kenya).
What does National University ask in the essay?
An essay or personal statement is required.
The personal statement is a chance for you to sell yourself and your experience. You should highlight your career achievements and explain any deficiencies (low grades from the past). You should address why you chose Nurse Anesthesiology and National University and what you have done to prepare for it (shadow CRNAs, read Watchful Care book, go to meetings, etc.) Do not send us a generic letter where you replace one program name with ours. We expect a paragraph about WHY you want to go to National. We have received several generic letters with OTHER program names in them.
